Pfizer Faces Reduction In Chantix Sales Even One Year After The Appearance Of Reports Concerning Chantix Side-Effects

Pfizer Incl., the manufacturer of the quit smoking drug chantix, has reported that since the news regarding chantix triggering off serious side-effects first appeared, the sales of the medication started to undergo a significant decline and the decrease in chantix sales is continuing till now.
Sources divulge that chantix was first made available in the market without any specific warnings or signs regarding its capability to induce suicidal behavior in patients and as a consequence, the drug was sold tremendously during the first few years after its release. But when in November 2007, the FDA (Food and Drugs Administration) released reports about certain users contemplating to undertake suicide after administering chantix and also made apparent that a section of chantix users were directly resorting to suicide and showing bizarre behavior after taking chantix, the sales of the medicine started to fall significantly.
Altogether, sources reveal that starting from late 2007, the chantix warning label has been updated numerous times which led to a higher degree of awareness among users pertaining to suicide risk and other problems triggered off by chantix. As a result, since late 2007, chantix sales have declined tremendously. Further, the FDA states that during the last months of 2007, it obtained around 39 chantix suicide reports and more than 500 reports pertaining to strange behavior and suicidal thoughts after chantix use and from then on, reports on psychological side effects triggered off by chantix have undergone an enormous increase.
However, it has been reported by Pfizer that in 2009`s first quarter, chantix sales decreased by another 36% to touch $177 million.
