Canadian Health Regulators Issue Latest Warning With Regard To Chantix Side-Effects

The health regulators in Canada have reportedly made apparent its latest warnings on the psychiatric side-effects yielded by the Pfizer manufactured anti-smoking medicine Chantix (known as Champix in Canada). However, regarding this new Chantix warning, Health Canada states that it is aimed at reminding the consumers that Canadian health regulators are trying to fortify Chantix labeling pertaining to the risk of psychiatric effects yielded by the medicine.
According to Health Canada, before taking Chantix, smokers are supposed to inform a physician immediately if they have fallen prey to depression as well as several other mental health problems as these adverse symptoms are most likely to deteriorate the condition of a patient while administering Chantix. Alongside, there are also other specific Chantix warnings that a chantix user should pay attention to. Some of the Health Canada stated Chantix warnings are:
- Patient administering Chantix should abstain from using dangerous machinery or driving a car until they are able to fully ascertain that the anti-smoking medicine Chantix is not capable of unleashing dangerous effects on them.
- Smokers opting for chantix to get rid of smoking addiction should be especially aware of unusual feelings, behavior or thoughts and mainly those ones that are associated with aggression, depression and self-harm. It is strictly recommended for patients to stop administering Chantix instantly if they find themselves affected with such thoughts.
Health Canada also revealed that it has decided to issue the most recent Chantix reminder as people are generally encouraged to initiate anti-smoking attempts in the New Year. However, it is known that the updation of The Canadian Product Monograph for Chantix was done in December 2005 and in May 2008; it was revised to highlight Chantix safety information concerning the adverse psychiatric side-effects yielded by the medicine.
